I’ll always be a Delhiite: Akshay Kumar

By Hindustan Times

Akshay Kumar may have shifted base to Mumbai for acting but he remains a pukka Dilliwala at heart. “I can’t stay away from Delhi and therefore I keep coming back every two to three months. I own a house here, I was born here, so nothing can separate me from Delhi. I am a pukka Delhiite,” says the 44-year-old actor, who is currently shooting in the city for Neeraj Pandey’s film, Special Chabbis.

Relaxing between the shots in his vanity van and dressed in a navy blue sweatshirt and khaki capri, Akshay was watching a cricket match on TV, at the shoot location at Barakhamba Road. “The air of this city is such that it makes you feel relaxed and at peace… Bombay ka toh bura haal hai. I love being here,” he says.

He adds, “The city might have undergone a huge change infrastructure-wise but the people here are still the same. Delhi mere ghar jaisa hai kyunki yahan ke logon mein pyaar aur apnapan bahut hai, unlike Mumbai where everyone is too formal.”

Though tight-lipped about his character in Special Chabbis, Akshay eagerly talks about his other films. “I have huge expectations from Housefull 2 as the audience wants to see sequels. I’ve got requests to make Singh Is Kinng 2 and Namaste London 2. So, the sequel will work only if the script is good.”

Trouble in his marriage with wife Twinkle was the latest controversy that made Akshay hit headlines recently. “I don’t know where these rumours come from. Professionally, I might have got used to them but you can’t raise fingers at my personal life. I sued the concerned publication and am seeking an apology,” says Akshay, who found it too personal to comment about wife Twinkle’s rumoured pregnancy.
