Twitter turns six
Twitter was created by a 5-member team, working under the banner of a start-up called Obvious in San Francisco. In its short history, Twitter has become an important marketing tool for celebrities, politicians and businesses, promising a level of intimacy never before approached online, as well as giving the public the ability to speak directly to people and institutions once comfortably on a pedestal. It is now available in 28 different languages and employs over 835 people.
Its use as an organizing tool, first in Iran during the disputed presidential election of June 2009 to disseminate information in the face of a news media crackdown, brought it new respect. And it continues to engage the political audience with as many as 40,000 tweets in an hour referring to Rick Santorum in one of the recent Republican nomination debates.
With unofficial estimates putting the number of Twitter accounts at over 350 million, Twitter is part of an elite group of social web start-ups that have flourished in recent years by rapidly attracting users. It took 3 years, 2 months and 1 day to hit the first billion tweets. Now it takes less than a week to clock that many.
But while peers like Facebook and Zynga have aimed for the public markets, Twitter is holding back. In the summer of 2011, Twitter raised $400 million from private investors. The fund-raising effort, led by DST Global, the investment firm headed by the Russian billionaire Yuri Milner, valued the company at $8 billion. In December, Prince Walid bin Talal of Saudi Arabia announced he had taken a $300 million stake in the company, representing roughly 3 percent, this valuing the company at around $10 billion.
But in many ways the journey is just getting started for Twitter. Long ridiculed for not having a business model in place, the company started to experiment with promoted trends, tweets and accounts. Twitter announced an expansion to the program as recently as yesterday.
While its balance sheet shows little sign of improvement in the near term, there's no doubting Twitter will continue to play an important role in our lives in days to come.

Kunal Khemu turns action hero for Mahadkar's next
By Hindustan Times
Actor Kunal Khemu, who has pulled off serious as well as comedy roles, will now be seen in a hardcore action movie. After working with Kunal in his directorial debut Blood Money, Vishal Mahadkar has roped in the actor for his next untitled film. "I am doing a hardcore action thriller with Kunal Khemu. I always wanted to do an action film. Something I really enjoy watching, this is completely my space. Somewhere it is Kunal's space as well I think we are going to make a kick ass film as a team," Mahadkar told IANS.
Releasing March 30, Blood Money has been produced by Vishesh Films and Mahadkar's next ios also coming from the same banner.
"No discussion on the title as of now. The script is being written and when the script is ready we can decide whether to give it a title that has a franchise or not. But, as off now it's not a sequel. I like to cast only when my script is written. It's too early to talk about other characters," said Mahadkar.
The director promises to show some street brawls in the film.
"I just enjoy action films. You will see lot of fights, lot of street brawls but not like any explosions and that kind of action. I have little bit of action in Blood Money as well. That will be a fun space for me to explore," said the director.
Mahadkar believes Kunal is fit and need not work on his body.
"He is already super fit. Kunal agreed on the principle that character is going to be written keeping him in mind. We will be pushing him on the sets to run around and do all the crazy things to pull off a great action film," said the director

Saif turns ‘choreographer’ for Agent Vinod
By Hindustan Times
Actor-producer Saif Ali Khan, who’s gearing up to perform at producer Ekta Kapoor’s award show, Global Indian Film and TV Honors, tonight, says he’s choreographed a couple of dance steps for his chartbuster Pyaar ki pungi… from Agent Vinod. “The audience will witness the other side of Agent Vinod’s character in this song,” he says.
When asked what kind of reactions have come his way for his ‘performance’ in the song, the 41-year-old says, “Lot of people have told me it’s unlike what they think and it’s not what I usually do. I made up a couple of steps. It was spontaneous. When I heard the beats, I came up with a few moves and the choreographers liked them. So we have kept the moves in the actual video.”
The father of two adds that he’s extremely happy with the way it has finally turned out. “It was something really new for me,” says Saif, who plans to run the full song when the end credits roll.
At the moment, the actor is excited about his stage performance, though not too many people would be aware that it’s not his first. He performed at a popular award show a couple of years ago.
“I can’t remember the exact number of years since I performed last. Earlier, there were loads of world tours that were a lot of fun to be part of. I’ve done a couple of live performances and I enjoy them,” says Saif, adding, “It peps up the act if the songs chosen for your act are great.”
Saif’s last film as a producer came a couple of years ago. Given the gap between the two productions, and the genre he’s ventured into this time, is he nervous about the reactions for Agent Vinod? “There’s positive buzz about the film.
So I’m hoping the opening will be great,” says the actor. “If this film works to the audience’s and my satisfaction, then I would love to produce a sequel.”

Rohit Shetty turns actor!
By Hindustan Times
Director of the hit Golmaal franchise, Rohit Shetty, who was recently seen in the reality show The Big Switch playing judge, has now shot a cameo in Ekta Kapoor’s Kya Super Cool Hai Hum (KSKHH). Tusshar Kapoor, who plays the lead in the film, confirms, “Yes, Rohit is doing a cameo in the film. I have shot with him and it was fun.” Tusshar and Rohit are known to be good friends, having worked on all three Golmaal films.
Additionally, the actor was instrumental in getting Rohit on board for the project. The production team approached him for the cameo but as he was busy shooting Bol Bachchan, talks couldn’t progress. Tusshar then convinced Rohit to come on board. “He had never turned down the cameo to begin with. But he agreed after I spoke to him,” the actor says.
In KSKHH, Rohit plays himself, a director who is shy and quiet on screen. The filmmakers wrapped up Rohit’s portion in few hours as Ekta didn’t want to take much of his time. “We wanted him to be happy as that’s how he is when work is done quickly,” Tusshar smiles. Can we expect another Golmaal film? “I have no clue about that,” he says.
Directed by Sachin Yardi, Kya Super Kool Hai Hum is a sequel to the 2005 hit, Kya Kool Hai Hum starring Riteish Deshmukh and Tusshar Kapoor along with Neha Sharma and Sarah Jane-Dias.
Other directors playing themselves
