Priyanka, Salman, Katy Perry to perform at IPL opening!

The much-awaited opening ceremony of the fifth season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) will be a grand spectacle, as international pop star Katy Perry will perform on the big night.

Apart from the American singer, Bollywood biggies Salman Khan, Priyanka Chopra and Amitabh Bachchan, along with southern superstar Prabhu Deva — who is choreographing his own act — will also deliver power-packed acts at the event, to be held on April 3 at Chennai’s YMCA College of Physical Education.

“We look forward to Ms Perry’s participation at the IPL 2012 Opening Nite. A performer of her calibre makes the occasion even more special for the players, organisers and fans,” says IPL Chairman, Rajeev Shukla, adding: “This year’s ceremony will be something that’s never been seen before in IPL.”

Others who’ll be performing are Colonial Cousins — the band formed by singer Hariharan and singer-composer Leslie Lewis, and international artist Ravi Drums. “It will be a two-hour event. Shiamak Davar is putting together the show, and Mudassar Khan will choreograph Salman’s performance,” reveals Sabbas Joseph of Wizcraft, the company that is managing the event. Contrary to reports, Big B is not hosting the event.

Imran in playboy days was called 'Im the Dim': Salman Rushdie

New Delhi:  Two months after he was forced to skip a literary fest in Jaipur, controversial writer Salman Rushdie tonight attended a function here amid tight security. The controversial author of 'The Satanic Verses', which was banned in India owing to protest from a section of Muslims, attended the 'India Today Conclave' at Taj Palace attended by a select group of invitees. The author at the Conclave, slammed Pakistan's cricketer-turned politician Imran Khan, who skipped the function because of Mr Rushdie's participation.

This is what Mr Rushdie said:

Imran was told well in advance I was coming. Imran is a man of the old school. Maybe he doesn't know how email works. This man wants to be the ruler of Pakistan. If you want to placate mullahs, don't leave a paper trail. Imran said I caused immeasurable hurt to Muslims. In real world, immeasurable hurt is caused by terrorists based in Pakistan who attack countries like India. Imran wants us to talk to lashkar. Imran is now scared of facing my bouncers. Two months ago on Indian TV I promised I would be here. I have to thank Imran Khan. I was going to speak at a less important session. I thank him for this promotion and for vacating this spot. Here he is trying to placate mullah and placate Army while presenting himself as the acceptable face of Pakistan. We don't need to give Imran Khan more publicity, which he needs. Have you noticed the physical resemblance between Imran and Gaddafi? Could cast Imran as a slightly better-looking Gaddafi. On whether he feels threatened by Imran Khan: More scared of the ex-girlfriends I've had than Imran Khan. In our time, essential freedoms are in danger of society. In India also, not just egalitarian states. Public apathy is also damaging. Ideally, a writer should not be the subject. Should be the observer, not observed. I would place a substantial bet that he has not read it (Satanic Verses). When Imran was a playboy in London, he was called Im the dim. Imran may have been born again. He will have to be judged by this (the new Imran). Those of us who knew the young Imran don't remember him like this. On the Congress- Years and years of kneeling down before every mullah did not work. It must feel sick. I am not very fond of..let me not mention Chetan Bhagat..and yet I believe he has the right to publish..and live (Mr Bhagat is in the audience). On Uttar Pradesh: Votebank politics going on again. Congress did this to no avail. Indian electorate is smarter than politicians and can see through them. 95 percent of the Muslims in India are not interested in the violence being done in their name. On politicians like Omar Abdullah, Akhilesh Yadav and Pranab Mukherjee boycotting the Conclave (as mentioned by Aatish Taseer, who is moderating the Conclave): I am impressed with my effect. Really, they're that scared of me? In the old days, we called this cowardice. On Omar and Akhilesh: Sad that leaders supposed to be the next generation are behaving in old-fashioned way. I hope they will grow up. I am not saying that I should be the only one to speak...only that I should also have the right to speak.

Salman Rushdie on Akhilesh, Omar boycotting him at Delhi event

New Delhi:  At the India Today Conclave, Salman Rushdie was asked about his opinion on politicians who boycotted the event because of him. The list allegedly includes Union Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav and his counterpart in Jammu and Kashmir, Omar Abdullah.

"Sad that leaders supposed to be the next generation are behaving in old-fashioned way. I hope they will grow up," Mr Rushdie said at the event. He also said, "I am impressed with my effect. Really, they're that scared of me?"

On Twitter, Mr Abdullah responded, "Miss the conclave I'm afraid of an author. Come to Delhi & a communal clash breaks out in Jammu I'm incompetent. Honestly I'm glad I missed...I had a situation with the BJP VHP Bajrang Dal & others itching to inflame passions so I have no regrets about the decision to stay in Jammu...Plus Salman Rushdie doesn't even know I exist so do you really think he gives a toss whether I was there or not?? Get real :-)"

Salman, Malaika in Dabangg 2 item song?

Munni Badnaam Hui… topped the charts in 2010. And since last Friday, which is when Dabangg 2 went on the floors, rumours have suggested that Salman Khan and sister-in-law Malaika Arora Khan can soon be expected to come together for another item number called Pandeyji Maare Seeti….

Quiz composer Wajid on the subject and he says that both the stars will do item songs, but he doesn’t confirm whether they will be dancing to any track together.

“You can’t leave Munni out of Dabangg 2, but where and when she comes in is a surprise,” he says, adding that he and his partner Sajid have almost finished composing the score. “We’ve locked on three songs. Arbaaz bhai is not a confused debutant director, he knows what he wants. Salman bhai and he are happy with the songs.”

The duo flagged off their career with the track Teri Jawaani… from the Salman Khan-starrer Pyar Kiya To Darna Kya in 1998. Since then, they’ve worked with him in 15 films. “He’s like an older brother. Having observed him over the years, we know his personality traits that subconsciously get incorporated into our tracks.”

Wajid has also composed a third song, which will apparently star a top actor. Incidentally, there was also some speculation about Kareena Kapoor doing an item number in Dabangg 2. But Wajid is unaware: “We’ve also heard that Kareena could be coming on board, she would rock it! Salman, Malaika and Kareena are so convincing on screen that any song can seem tailor-made for them.”

Ask him whether the Dabangg 2 track will outperform RA.One’s Chammak Challo… and Wajid retorts, “Every song has its own charm. All I can say is that after our song, everyone will want one like it.”

Who stopped Salman Khan's shoot?

Hanumant Rao Patil, a notorious film federation employee (FWICE) barged into Salman Khan's shoot and stopped it. The shoot was taking place in Mehboob Studios in Bandra.

"Patil, a self-styled king (read mafia lord), who has been going on upstaging Bollywood shoots for the past few months and tormenting filmmakers in the Hindi cinema industry, recently stopped a commercial shoot featuring the actor. In fact Salman was left cooling his heels in his vanity van. And this unpleasant incident has not gone down too well with the other members of FWICE," reports Mumbai Mirror.

Patil reportedly asked Raman Lamba, in charge of the production, to cough up Rs 66,000. Introducing himself as the head of 'Still photography Department' of the FWICE, Patil asked Lamba to pay up the required sum before continuing with the shoot, as he's not registered with the organisation, according to the tabloid.

"Stopping Salman's shoot is just not done. The same goes for any other shoot actually. FWICE is not here to inconvenience people. We don't demand money from people. We resolve issues amicably. What Patil is doing is just not done," the Vice Chairman of Allied Mazdoor Union, a part of FWICE, Prem Singh Thakur told the tabloid.

As for Patil, the federation has now decided to take strict action against him. "Patil has been harassing filmmaker for a long time. We want to sack him very soon," a member informed Mumbai Mirror.

The actor’s charity is facing tiff competition from the shirts’ rip offs, which have become a hit with people, leading to financial loss for the foundation.

The commercial will be shot in Mehmood studio and include Salim Khan, Helen, Arpita, Alvira, Sohail, Arbaaz and Mallika.

Salman Khan starts shooting for Dabangg 2

Salman Khan has started shooting for the sequel to Dabangg on Friday at Kamal Amrohi Studios, known as Kamalistan.
The studio houses 12 units, and has been rented exclusively to Dabangg 2 till its first schedule concludes.There is also an unprecedented security ring of 80 bodyguards.
This is for the first time in Bollywood and in the 55-year-old history of Kamalistan, that an entire studio has been given for hire to just one film.
