Lucknow: The drunk SUV driver, who ran over a 28-year-old man in Lucknow following an argument, was arrested today. The accused, Rajesh Tiwari, had fled from the scene after the incident on Thursday night.
Tiwari had rammed the victim's car parked outside his house in Gomti Nagar area of the city. When the man demanded money for repairs, the SUV driver reversed his car hurriedly and ran over him - not once, but twice.
The victim, identified as 28-year-old Arjun Bahadur, was rushed to a nearby hospital. He later succumbed to his injuries. Mr Bahadur worked as a driver with a private company. He is survived by his wife and three daughters - the youngest of them is six months old.
According to reports, there were two more men in the SUV. They too were allegedly drunk.

Kanpur: More trouble for the Akhilesh Yadav-government in Uttar Pradesh which has made law-and-order its top priority.
In the Pankhi area of Kanpur, a taxi driver, Ankit Yadav, was allegedly beaten to death today by a local Samajwadi Party (SP) worker Prashant Tiwari after he refused to pay Rs 300.
The two had an argument over Mr Yadav parking his cab too close to the Mr Tiwari's hotel and then subsequently refusing to pay a parking fee, that Mr Tiwari demanded. In the altercation that followed, Mr Yadav was allegedly beaten with a stick by Mr Tiwari. He was rushed to hospital where he was declared dead on arrival.
Ankit Yadav's death triggered angry reactions from his relatives who torched not just Mr Tiwari's hotel but even shops adjacent to it.
The police had to be called in and had to resort to lathicharge to control the violent mob.
A case of murder has been registered against Mr Tiwari who is missing.

Pune: A cab driver and his accomplice, accused of rape and murder of a 22-year-old BPO employee in Pune, were pronounced guilty of both charges by a Pune Court on Saturday. The sentence for the duo would be given by the court on Monday.
Jyoti Kumari Chowdhari, a BPO employee in a multinational company, was allegedly raped and murdered by the driver of company's pick-up car on November 1, 2007.
The driver Purushottam Borate had reportedly picked Ms Jyoti at 10 pm for her night shift in the BPO, situated at Hinjweadi area in Pune. According to reports, the driver was joined by his friend Pradeep Kokate in the cab. Ms Jyoti was talking on the phone with her boyfriend and did not realise where they were headed. At 11 pm Ms Jyoti's boyfriend heard her ask the driver why had he stopped the car after which the phone was disconnected and was unreachable, say reports.
Ms Jyoti's body was found next day at Gahunje village. She was raped and had been strangulated to death.
Ms Jyoti, who was from Gorakhpur in Uttar Pradesh, was a Science graduate from the University of Pune. She was staying with her sister and brother-in-law in Panchavati area of Pashan and had joined a call centre as an associate in December 2006.
The case had sent shock waves in the IT and BPO industry in Pune and had exposed the vulnerability and lack of safety of women employees working in BPO units and call centres.

Bangalore: The Bangalore police is hunting for a woman who was driving an SUV that ran over a man sleeping on a pavement. The police believes she was drunk.
On Sunday night, Nagaraj was among a group of labourers who decided to sleep out in the open on a main road at Kamanahalli in east Bangalore. Nagaraj, in his early 20s, had moved to Bangalore from a village in North Karnataka to make a living as a construction worker. He had just found out that his wife had delivered a baby boy and was planning to return to his village, Raichur, on Monday.
Shivyogi was lying near him on Sunday night. "An SUV ran over us at around 12.30 am," he said. Some of the others sleeping there also received minor injuries.
The Toyota Fortuner was abandoned by its driver. The police have identified a young girl as the driver.
When the hit-and-run took place, she was with a boy who the police has identified and interrogated. "He was detained immediately and a medical examination was conducted. He was drunk. We believe the girl also was drunk at the time. We are trying to trace the girl, because apparently the girl came into contact with this boy a few hours before in a coffee shop," said M A Salaeem, a senior police officer handling the case.
The police has got a photograph of the driver from a mobile phone of one of her friends.

Chennai: In a freak accident, a soldier perched over a T-90 battle tank was killed when its driver lost control and dashed against a concrete structure in Chennai today.
A concrete slab fell on the tank following the mishap, killing the soldier and injuring another at the Combat Vehicles Research and Development Establishment (CVRDE).
"It is an unfortunate accident. The tank was taken out for testing. The driver was inside the tank and two others were sitting outside," a senior official told IANS.
"The driver lost control and dashed against a concrete column. A concrete slab fell on the tank killing one person and injuring the other," he said.
The dead man was identified as Harish.
Another source told IANS: "The tanks are parked inside a garage. The vehicle was taken out for a test run when the accident happened.
"It seems one of the steering sticks of the tank got stuck and the driver lost control of the vehicle."
The injured soldier has been admitted in a military hospital.
T-90 is a Russian battle tank. India also manufacturers modified T-90 tanks at the Heavy Vehicles Factory here. These are called Bhishma.
