Rahul-Konkona in Tagore love story

By Hindustan Times

Mr And Mrs Iyer are getting ready to reunite for another love story, this time based on the Tagore novel, Shesher Kabita (The Last Poem, 1929). It revolves around two iconic characters of Bengali literature, Amit and Labannya, who will be played by Rahul Bose and Konkana Sen Sharma. Sumon Mukherji’s Bengali film will flag off in April-May, wrap up by October, and should release this year.

“The timing is great since this year marks Rabindranath Tagore’s 150th birth centenary. It’s my first period film and it is wonderful that someone believes I can play such an important literary character who is part-Oscar Wilde part-Renaissance man, a Bengali aristocrat who, thanks to his travels abroad, is as comfortable with Keats as Rabi Thakur,” says Rahul. He points out that the profound transformation the Oxford educated barrister undergoes after meeting the young governess in a car accident, makes the character really exciting for him as an actor.

He admits that since Mr And Mrs Iyer (2002), 15 Park Avenue (2005) and Dil Kabaddi (2008), he has been dying to work with Konkana again, describing her as one of the most exciting actors in world cinema today. “Also, she is one of the nicest human beings I’ve known, so there’s a lot of comfort, trust and laughter on the sets,” he says. Meanwhile, Rahul has been offered three Bangladeshi Bengali films and has liked all three scripts. “One is excellent, the others very good,” he says. “I’d like to squeeze out time for at least one of them this year.”

Suddenly I was a heroine in a love story: Aditi Rao

By Hindustan Times

Who knew that the shy, cotton-sari clad ‘bua’ (aunt) from Delhi 6 would one day be playing the lead in a romcom. Aditi Rao Hydari has certainly come a long way. She agrees, “When I auditioned for Delhi 6, I didn’t even know what role it was for. All I knew was that it had an ensemble cast. It was only after I’d been signed that I was told the role was along the lines of Jaya Bachchan’s in Sholay. Now that was exciting!”

Post Rakyesh Om Prakash Mehra’s Abhishek Bachchan-Sonam Kapoor starrer, Aditi was seen in Yeh Saali Zindagi (YSZ) and Rockstar. Both were supporting roles till London Paris New York with Ali Zafar came along. “Suddenly, I was a heroine in a love story that was topical and conversational,” she smiles.

Quiz her on her transition from a supporting actor to a leading lady and Aditi says, “I always knew I wanted to act but I also knew that bagging a leading role would take time. I’d guess my performances in the previous films were noticed which is why Goldie (Behl) and Shrishti (Arya) came to me with London Paris New York.”

Aditi believes her background in classical dance has helped her in her acting career. What’s more, London Paris New York also gave her a song. “I’m a trained dancer but I never imagined I’d become a playback singer some day. My mother is a classical singer so I guess it was in the genes. I was six months old when I hummed a tune and everyone decided I was going to be a singer too. But I had to wait for Ali to give me a voice,” she says.

She comes across as a shy, reserved girl but Aditi has done some pretty steamy scenes in Yeh Saali Zindagi, Rockstar and the just-released London Paris New York. “I’m not too comfortable with bold scenes, but in Yeh Saali Zindagi, Arunoday Singh and I were a couple, so we couldn’t play badminton, could we?” she points out. “For me, it depends upon the director and I wasn’t going to give up a chance to work with Sudhir Mishra because of my inhibitions. London Paris New York was a love story too, so it was important to get into character. If I’m comfortable with the way an intimate scene is being shot, I’ll do it. Period.”

Hate Story mystery girl revealed!

By Hindustan Times

The mystery around the girl in the poster of Vikram Bhatt's production Hate Story has been solved. She is Bengali actress Paoli Dam, who created a stir with a nude scene in a movie last year.

She stirred up a buzz with the poster of Hate Story, showing a tattooed bare back and a gun placed strategically to titillate the viewers.

Paoli, who received flak for her bold scene in Bengali film Chatrak in 2011, is making her foray into Bollywood with Hate Story.

Directed by Vivek Agnihotri, the movie, which also features Nikhil Dwivedi and Gulshan Devaiah, is based on a woman's vengeance and how she uses her sexuality as a weapon.

It will release April 20.

Paoli made her acting debut with Bengali film Agnipariksha in 2006 and hogged the limelight in 2009 when she won accolades for director Gautam Ghose's Kaalbela.

She also shared screen space with Bipasha Basu in Shob Charitro Kalponik.
