Anarkali lands Housefull 2 in legal trouble

By Hindustan Times

Producer Sajid Nadiadwala’s soon-to-be-released comedy Housefull 2 may be headed for trouble. The Maharashtra wing of the NGO, Bharatiya Bhrashtachar Nivaran Sanstha has raised objections to the song, Anarkali Disco Chali… They claim that the song’s lyrics spread disinformation and distort history.

The NGO that operates all over the country takes up cases of corruption in the BMC, helps educate children and facilitates police-related issues.

The NGO feels that the line, Oye Hoye Chod Chaad Ke Apne Saleem Ki Gali, Anarkali Disco Chali… from the song could have a negative impact on children.

Maharashtra president of the NGO, Sameer Rai says, “We don’t have any objection to the cast and crew of the film. I’m sure they don’t even know their history well. Our problem is with producer Nadiadwala. We want to ask him if he knows the importance of Saleem in our country’s history. In the Maharashtra School Board curriculum, you find lessons on Saleem, who is the son of Mughal emperor Akbar. After listening to the song, children in the state would wonder why Saleem stayed in a gali (passage) or why Anarkali (Saleem’s love interest according to history) went to a disco.”

Sameer claims he had called up Nadiadwala’s office and wasn’t allowed to speak to him. Instead, the phone was handed over to an employee. He plans to file a PIL against the song on Monday, once the courts open after a three-day break. Rai says, “Before filing the case on Monday, we will send a legal notice to Nadiadwala. We want the lyrics of Anarkali… to be changed or else we will request the court to stop the release. We can’t allow people to misrepresent our past.” Nadiadwala was unavailable for comment. The film releases on April 5.

Anarkali Sisco Chali..., is filmed in a nightclub and stars Malaika Arora Khan, Akshay Kumar, John Abraham, Riteish Deshmukh among others dancing to it.

There will be a Housefull 3: Sajid Khan

By Hindustan Times

Director Sajid Khan has no qualms admitting that he takes actors Akshay Kumar and Riteish Deshmukh for granted. So much so, that when the filmmaker finished scripting the soon-to-be-released film Housefull 2, he gave the entire cast a formal narration, but didn’t include the two actors in the
sitting.

“Akshay had a vague idea of his character. But Riteish was completely clueless. I remember him asking me what his role was, and I looked back at him and said, ‘Don’t you trust me?’ We even had a small fight and then Riteish said he didn’t want to hear the story. For at least half the shoot, he did not read the script or know what the story of the film was. Until we shot the climax, that is,” says Sajid, who in the past has directed the two actors in Heyy Babyy (2007) and Housefull (2010).

There seem to be a lot of similarities between the first film and the sequel. The Housefull 2 song Right Now Now… has been shot a lot like the original’s Papa Jag Jayega… Not only is the location and setting similar, but the actors are also dressed in their nightclothes in both the videos. “I realised what worked, and that’s why I’ve kept these similarities. I’ve even used animals in this one like in the previous film. But it will have a completely different climax as people didn’t seem to understand the original’s climax,” he says.

Meanwhile, even though his next film is a few weeks away from release, the director has already considered a Housefull 3. “Yes there will be a Housefull 3. But I will not make it without Sajid Nadiadwala producing it and Akshay and Riteish acting in it,” says Sajid, who along with Riteish, Asin, Jacqueline Fernandez and Shazahn Padamsee made a brief appearance at the HT Mint Luxury Conference in the city on Friday.

Housefull 2 to premiere in Singapore

By Hindustan Times

Last December, Universal Studios Singapore opened Transformers: The Ride, the world’s first theme park attraction based on the popular Hollywood franchise. The film’s director and executive producer Michael Bay powered it up and flagged off Asia’s most technologically advanced motion thrill ride.

On April 3, Bollywood producer Sajid Nadidawala, along with the entire cast of Housefull 2 — The Dirty Dozen, and a 100-plus team, will fly to Resorts World Sentosa in Singapore to unveil the much-anticipated sequel to his 2010 movie. The film opens April 5 worldwide.

Says Nadidawala, “We’ve had premieres in Dubai, London and the US, so why not Singapore? I’ve been shooting my films around the world, from Australia (Hey Babyy, 2007) and LA (Kambakkht Ishq, 2009) to Puglia, a remote village in Italy (Housefull, 2010) and the desert outside Las Vegas’ casino world (Anjanaa Anjaani, 2010). Even parts of Housefull 2 were filmed on a tiny island in Caribia, British Virgin Islands, where we couldn’t even anchor boats. We had to leave Sajid (director Sajid Khan), Akshay (Kumar), John (Abraham), along with the crew, and return to pick them up after pack-up. My company has bagged three awards for exploiting virgin locations on the Hindi screen.”

Quiz him on whether he’s considering shooting in Singapore for the upcoming Salman Khan-Sonakshi Sinha starrer, Kick, that starts end of the year and Sajid says, “No, for Kick my team is already in South Korea on a recci. We are thinking of shooting the Sajid Khan directed Judwaa 2 in Singapore starring Saif (Ali Khan). He has never played a double role before and I’ll be flying down technicians from LA to make this a never-seen-before twin caper.”

Asin loses 10 kilos for Housefull 2 shoot

By Hindustan Times

n Bollywood, weighty issues are never in short supply. Now, Asin seems to have joined the bandwagon. The actor lost around 10 kilos after wrapping up the first schedule of Housefull 2 in London around June last year, just in time for the second leg, which kicked off in Mumbai in September.

“We were surprised to see Asin in a lighter avatar. But instead of panicking, everyone — including Sajid (director Sajid Khan) —loved her new look as it was only going to work as a value addition,” says an insider in the unit.

Although makers approved of Asin’s slender figure, they had to make certain adjustments. To start with, the camera was placed a little further from the actor than usual. Plus, some clothes meant for certain photo shoots had to be adjusted.

“Indian dresses such as the ghagra-choli were altered to fit Asin. But they had to replace the dresses with the same designs in smaller sizes from costume designer Aki Narula because the old ones were too big for her and couldn’t be altered,” says the insider, adding that the development cost the production house R2.5 lakh extra.

When contacted, director Sajid Khan says, “I really don’t know if Asin lost weight or not. All I will say is that she was looking terrific during our second schedule. And I don’t think any director can complain if his actor is coming across as being even more beautiful and has shed flab.’” Asin’s team, on their part, denies the weight loss.
